The Economics of Building with Mass Timber - Part 1: Design Optimization for the Speed of Construction
Course Description
What are the costs to build a 7-12 storey multi-family building with mass timber in BC? How will these buildings meet BC Energy Step Code and BC Building Code requirements? Part one of a two-part series focuses on examples of regional multi-unit buildings designed for unique site-specific requirements and climate zones. Key objectives include:
-
Understand the integration potential of the mass timber façade and structure with low carbon energy systems.
-
Learn how mass timber differs from concrete and steel hybrid construction, as well as flexible and repeatable building types and construction techniques.
-
Discover the factors that affect construction schedules and occupancy.
This first session will be of special interest to housing providers, developers, builders, suppliers, architects, designers, engineers, general contractors, construction managers, insurance and warranty providers as well as city planners.
